Notice on Organizing the Registration Work for the 11th National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition

Innovation is the primary driving force for development and the strategic support for building a modern economic system. The National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition, with its outstanding features of "physical participation, electromechanical integration, system training, innovative application, and technological entrepreneurship," has received high praise and positive response from teachers and students in majors such as mechanical engineering, near mechanical engineering, and engineering in national universities. According to the spirit of the Notice on the Theme and Content of the 11th National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition (Notice No. 1), the national finals of the 11th National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition will be held in mid to late July 2024 at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

The National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition is one of the most influential national level college student science and technology innovation competitions organized by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education. In order to select outstanding teams to represent the school in the "11th National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition" provincial and national competitions, the registration process for the participating projects is now organized. The relevant matters of the competition are notified as follows:

1.Theme and content of the competition

The theme of the 11th National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition (2024) is "Mechanical Innovation Promotes Agricultural Modernization, Natural Harmony Moves towards Biomimetic New Heights", with the content of design and production:

1. Small specialized machinery (referred to as Xingnong Machinery) used for sowing, managing, and harvesting domestic miscellaneous grains and 10 types of vegetables; 

2. "Biomimetic frogs" and "biomimetic butterflies" (referred to as high-performance biomimetic machinery) with the goal of improving the motion performance of biomimetic machinery.

Note: The design of this competition:

The domestically produced miscellaneous grains in content 1) refer to grains, taros, and other legume crops other than wheat, rice, corn, barley, sorghum, soybeans, sweet potatoes, and potatoes. The 10 vegetables are: scallions, Chinese cabbage, small green vegetables, spinach, chives, chili peppers, eggplants, asparagus, radishes, and lotus roots. To avoid duplication of topics with the 10th competition, irrigation machinery is not included in Xingnong Machinery;

The "bionic frog" in Content 2) must have a clear frog shape, with a design focus on simulating the jumping motion of the frog. Its static size (length x width x height) should not exceed 0.1m x 0.1m x 0.1m, and the size after jumping deformation should not exceed 0.2m x 0.1m x 0.1m. The original energy source should be a battery, with a battery voltage not exceeding 24V and a total mass of the work not exceeding 4kg The biomimetic butterfly must have a clear butterfly shape, with a design focus on its flight motion and ability to change flight direction. During flight, the size of the biomimetic butterfly in any direction should not exceed 0.3m; using batteries as the original energy source, the battery voltage should not exceed 24V, and the total weight of the work should not exceed 3kg.

All works participating in the finals must match the theme and content of this competition, otherwise they cannot participate. Advocate the application of intelligent technology, digital (twin) technology, or 5G+communication technology in the design of mechanical works to enhance the contemporary characteristics of the works.

2.Participants and Requirements

1. Registered full-time undergraduate students in our institution;

2. The number of students in each team of the Mechanical Innovation Design Competition shall not exceed 5, and the number of guiding teachers shall not exceed 2. Students of all grades in the college are free to form teams to participate in the competition;

3. Encourage cross disciplinary and cross grade team building;

4. Possess strong practical skills, innovative consciousness, good communication skills, and team spirit.

3.Registration and Precautions

1. Registration period: From today until May 31, 2023;

2. Students who plan to participate will form their own teams according to the requirements and contact their guidance teachers within the campus on their own;

3. After the participating team is formed, students can prepare according to the theme and content requirements of the competition under the guidance of the guiding teacher, and finally complete the design and production of the work, and submit it to the school and the organizing committees of each competition area:

a) The application form for the 11th competition works (see Annex 1, including paper and electronic documents);

b) Complete design specifications and main design drawings (including paper and electronic documents);

c) The physical prototype or scaled physical prototype of the work;

d) Video recording introducing the features of the work (within 3 minutes, limited to MP4 or RMVB format).

Event Introduction 

The National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition has been successfully held for ten sessions since 2003. Each competition showcases the extraordinary mechanical innovation design abilities of Chinese university students. On the morning of August 22, 2022, the final of the 10th National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition of "Weishi Cup" opened at Shenzhen Technology University. A total of 200 works from 123 universities across the country will compete for the championship prize. About 900 teachers and students from across the country participated in the physical online evaluation of the second stage of the finals, and nearly 100000 teachers and students will observe the grand opening and closing ceremonies of the competition through online live streaming.

The National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition is a biennial science and technology event for college students, representing the highest level of mechanical design ability among college students in China. In March 2021, the 10th National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition of Weishi Cup was officially launched. This year's National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition has 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across the country participating in 5972 provincial-level preliminary works. 490 works are recommended to participate in the national finals by each region, and 88 works are recommended to win the third prize nationwide. After the preliminary evaluation and approval of the preliminary competition finals, 200 works participated in the online evaluation of the second stage of the national finals. In the end, our school won 3 national first prizes, 1 second prize, and 2 third prizes. One national first prize for the Huiyu Group. Two second prizes and one third prize. 6 first prizes in Guangdong Province. Two second prizes. 6 third prizes.1 Excellence Award.
